RENNER GIVE SOUND ADVICE AND BRINGS TO LIFE THE SCRIPTURES WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE GREEK. HE IS ABLE TO BRING A DEEPER CLARITY OF THE SCRIPTURES WITH THE IMPARTATION OF THE MEANING OF WORDS IN GREEK THAT OPEN UP THE SCRIPTURES TO OURS HEARTS. THIS BOOK RESTORED MY FAITH IN MY DREAM. Reasonable Intro to the more dense official User Manual

I bought this book when I bought Ableon Live 8 Suite, and I had never used the software before. I read a lot of technical texts -- mostly software / computer texts, and I am just now getting into DAW stuff for fun. The book is more like a slimmed down version of the very large official Ableton User Manual PDF. It is more readable, and more narrative than the PDF, but not really by all that much.

It follows a particular style for technical texts that I don't care for much, which is to have chapters that just describe each function/feature of the software in a linear fashion. It doesn't promote learning all that well, b/c you tend to get bored just reading about feature after feature without being more interactive. It has available some live sets that you can download and there are a few areas in the book where it prompts you to try things, but not many.

By comparison, I also have the book Reason 4 Ignite by Matt Piper (also Cengage Learning), and it takes a completely different approach. Each chapter in that book has you start with blank instrument and work through a short lesson. This style I found much more engaging, and I learn the software so much faster.

With the Ableton Power book, I feel like I've learned enough about the software now by playing with it, that the book doesn't really provide much of a reference for me anymore, as I'll probably just go straight to the PDF User Manual. Your mileage may vary.

you are better off taking online courses this book is very confusing if you have never used ableton live seek professional guidance before cracking this book open otherwise you will end up way in over your head! this is a good reference book for technicalities, other than that not much helpful

Ableton Live Power from My Perspective

The book tends to go feature by feature with a lot of "yea for Ableton" filler in-between. For me it would be less of a grind if there were a narrative that introduced the features as part of typical task done in a recording session. I give it 3 stars relative to the piles of other tech books that I've read. Also, the book is very geared to Ableton as a music performance tool rather than an environment in which to record. This I guess is fair but not what I want out of it.

An Amazing Story

God bless the author of this book for the courage it must have taken to bring back all the memories after so many decades of living with his incredible experiences. When the words "Our Greatest Generation" are brought up, Mr. Pope stands as the shining example of the honor and dedication exhibited by the Marine Corp as they fought for our freedom and created the nation we enjoy today.

The book is so well written in such an easy style that (while not planning to) I sat all day and read it in one sitting. What is written between the lines fires the imagination and the occasional brief commentary on topics ranging from medals awarded to conduct of our warriors then and today is appropriate and displays and uncommon amount of common sense.

I come away from reading this book a very enriched person with a tremendous appreciation for our veterans, especially those who fought with Mr. Pope in such intense and horrific conditions.

Once again, God Bless Mr. Pope for all he has accomplished and for sharing this amazing story.

Great story! Could not put it down!

I enjoyed immensely reading about a true American hero. Also of note the writer starts with his childhood. Growing up in the depression during hard times by honorable parents forged the steel that Mr Pope obviously carried from childhood into manhood. His steadfast loyalty, code of honor and ability to see past the difficult times insured his survival during the war, and on to a successful career post WWII. I am always amazed at the greatest generation's abiliy to live through such horrific times, then come home and raise a family not once complaining about what they lived through. This story is about one of the greatest of the greatest generation. A true hero ( although he does not consider himself one). Great first hand account of a war fought far from home by our fathers. A must read for those that enjoy reading WWII history.

Easy Spanish Reader

The text is an excellent text for those of us who wish to brush up on our Spanish. The book itself is a five-star book. Because of all the underlining, highlighting, and writing in the book I received, I would not again order a book described as "acceptable." It is for this condition that I rated it two stars.

Great book with a unique voice!

Ok, this book totally rocked my world. I kept cracking up over and over again. I loved being inside of 11th grader James Hoff's world, listening to his rants and watching him pine over several girls. His observations about the world were just too good. This was definitely my kind of book. I felt like I was sort of laughing at how extreme he was but at the same time kind of got him. While he was obviously a lot of talk and not a lot of action I loved where he was coming from and would love to have a friend like that.

While I loved James rants and sort of easier said than done thoughts about the world I could see how he might get on other people's nerves. I really liked the way the book was written, how it was a mix of James rants, journal entries, and conversations with other people. There is an especially insightful essay about nature towards the end of the book which I really liked. I also liked the different relationships he explores with a few girls throughout the book. It was definitely harder for him to be Mr. Tough Guy when he was around Sadie his ex-girlfriend.

It was nice to see how James kind of mellowed out and found a place where he belonged towards the end of the book instead of trying to stand out from everyone as much as he could towards the beginning of the book. I'll definitely be checking out some of author Blake Nelson's other work!

Unique voice

James is a 17 year old high schooler who feels that the planet is being destroyed by cars and the consumer culture. Rather then working on useless (in his mind) canned food drives and bike path committees like his ex-girlfriend, he spends his time writing angry essays and defacing thrift store clothes to make a statement.

I choose this book because it speaks out against America's consumerist culture and I love books that help people become more aware. The book started out really good. I loved James' essays about why we should destroy all cars and the person who influenced him. I loved his commentary on his teachers and his ex-girlfriend. But as the book went on, James got more and more self-centered. Was he really interested in the state of the world or was he just trying to get attention. He was so against cars but didn't have a problem getting rides in them--but refused to own one himself. I did like the characters voice and I liked the story--I just would have liked to see a little more character growth. In all, a good read.

An Endearing, Funny, Coming-of-age, Young Adult Story

Can a book be too funny? I would have said no until I read or made several attempts to read DESTROY ALL CARS. I made two attempts to read the book at night. Both times, I woke my husband up from laughing so hard. So I put book away until one night I knew he'd be up late. I made it three-quarters of the way through before I realized there was no way I was going to be able to go to bed after reading this book. It was making me too excited for nighttime use.

I ended up completing this book in the afternoon. That's a great time for a pick-me-up. I never knew how I felt about the main character, James Hoff, a junior in high school. He definitely had a negative outlook, but the way he expressed it on paper had me doubling over in laughter. The reader got to know him through essays he submitted to is English teacher, Mr. Cogweiller as well as his journal entries.

James is all against Consumer Americans. He believes if we do away with all personally owned vehicles, we could save our planet. There is more going on with James though. He is trying to find his way, but it's pretty hard.

DESTROY ALL CARS is his coming-of-age story. It's endearing, hilarious, and a must read book!
